Katrijn Asselberg (°1985) holds an Advanced Master’s Degree in Cultures and Development Studies. Inspired by the work and research experience gained in a community-based organisation in northern Tanzania, she embarked on a doctorate in Social and Cultural Anthropology, and spent two years carrying out ethnographic research among young people active in the informal economy in Tanzania. She also spent several years working as a project coordinator in the sociocultural sector in Belgium, where she was engaged in two pilot projects focusing on well-being, integration, gender and empowerment. Alongside her experience in qualitative research, this enabled her to build up expertise in relation to action research and evaluation. She began working at South Research in 2017. Katrijn speaks Dutch, English, French and Swahili, and has a good working knowledge of Spanish.
